1 step back, 2 steps forward? (Season 26 review)

Written by Red Star at 09:33 16/12-2013

With one day to go of season 26, Red Star’s manager is ready to review the season. for the first time in many seasons, Red Star was not invited for the WC RR, even with the holding rainbow jersey champion, mr. Cetnik.

Red star ended season 26 at 23rd place in the world, with 2058 points. The team raced in 1 win and 12 results in total, not adding any palmares to their silver wear.

Team Manager Petter was asked to comment:

“Well, it has been a season where we have focused on rebuilding the team. However, we still performed worst than expected. Cetnik was relaxing during the 1st part of the season, so he could win GT wearing his rainbow jersey. Hence, we where very suprised to see that the GT organizers didn’t find a place for the rainbow jersey! And now he is not even given the chance to defend his jersey? The season was somewhat saved by Teun Swin’s 3 place in the NL GC, based on a breakaway win on the 2nd stage.

The team had 10 riders racing in points, with Teun Swin scoring the most with 550 points. He was followed by Cetnik, who manager 2 results. The sprinting legend Rytis struggles with motivation and had to be happy with 2 results as well. He also helped Dino score a solid 4th in the TvA GC. Sven Ørstad and Ernesto Correia had some results against the clock, while Ortega managed a 3rd in the Vuelta YC. The hill team of Beetens and Baboeuf combined for 2 results as well, with Beetens 5th in the Bergen Rundtur classic the highlight. The team also said farewell to Israeli star Alterman, who raced in some solid results in the early part of the season.

At the end of the season, the team had 0 riders in national jerseys.

On next season goal, our manager is offensive, and we got the following comments:

“We may have taken one step back, but that is done so we can make a huge leap forward. From season 27 we want the following; Cetnik for Vuelta YC and GC, and the national jersey! We have also been promised a spot in next year NL, hence Sven Ørstad will be there in TF, and our new Polish sprinter Tokarz can surprise the peloton?”
